Morpheus is coming...
So today I finally checked in the bits for Morpheus, our update to Membership. I'll go into more detail in a future post, but for now, I'm happy that it's off my plate. We still need to check for leaks around the edges, but it should be in a pretty good spot. As noted previously, late last year we got Morpheus running on a "doctored" version of Community Server 2.1 for a handful of Microsoft sites (forums.asp.net, weblogs.asp.net, forums.iis.net, blogs.iis.net, and more coming online soon). Today's check-in was my merge into Calypso (the current Community Server 3.0 codebase).
In a nutshell, the changes with Morpheus treat Membership as a black box. No more joins in the database to those pesky aspnet_* tables. It also leverages a better caching strategy between posts and users. In my local testing before my early morning check-in, it was nice to have a small test community, running in SQL 2000, using a backup of the communityserver.org database, running in SQL 2005, for membership.
While I doubt that I'll get to write as many (or as detailed) posts as Ben (who's doing an amazing job documenting the changes coming with Chameleon), I'll try and get more details out about Morpheus soon.
