Big Idea, Phil Vischer, and Jellyfish...

If you're anything like me, after seeing your first Veggie Tales video, and hearing your first Silly Songs with Larry, you decided you had to get more...for the kids of course.

Like many Christian families with small children, we were hooked with the big idea: "Sunday morning values, Saturday morning fun". So when we heard that the folks at Big Idea were going to be creating their first full-length feature animation movie, Jonah, we were excited. Then all of a sudden, we heard that Big Idea was dying. While disappointed, I never took the time to find out what had happened since new videos were still being released. (I especially liked their recently released parodies, Minnesota Cuke and Lord of the Beans)

Just last week, while reading an entry on Wikipedia, I ended up running across a link to Phil Vischer's account of the downfall of Big Idea. Phil was the CEO and chief veggie at Big Idea. His story shed light into what "killed Big Idea", while also touching on some of the same business principles I've been reading about in Think Big, Act Small. Ultimately, the lawsuit against Big Idea was overturned, but they were still sold and Phil has since moved on. He's now started a new small company, Jellyfish, and I'm sure his creative genius will begin turning out more product, but probably at a slower pace.

Good luck Phil!
